First Statewide Candidate to File for June 7th Primary

(28 February 2022) Davenport, IA – Today, Roby Smith, candidate for State Treasurer, announced he has filed the necessary petitions with the Iowa Secretary of State’s office to be an official candidate for the June 7th republican primary.

Smith filed 5,040 signatures, doubling the minimum number of signatures needed for the state treasurer’s position. The campaign collected signatures from all 99 counties, signed by republicans, democrats, and independent voters.

“I’m humbled by the outpouring of support we’ve received from Iowans ready for a change in the Treasurer’s office. I want to thank our volunteers from across the state who helped in this process. Not only doubling the signature requirement, but also filing on the first day is major accomplishment for a down ballot statewide candidate,” said Smith.

Smith for Treasurer ended 2021 reporting $144,530.58 cash on hand while Mike Fitzgerald reported only $49,837.32 in the bank.

Smith concluded, “based on the volume of signatures and an almost 3 to 1 cash advantage over Fitzgerald; we have the clear momentum headed into this election season.”

After graduating from Concordia University with a degree in Business Administration, Roby Smith worked for nearly a decade as a local banker in the Davenport area before becoming a small business owner and running for the Iowa legislature. Roby is currently an unpaid member of the local U.S. Bank Board and volunteers to teach financial literacy to students through the Junior Achievement program.

Roby Smith and his wife, Kari, live in Davenport, IA with their four children. The family is active at Trinity Lutheran Church and Roby volunteers with area youth sports and serves on the Scott Community College Foundation Board.
