Smith Sets All-Time Record for Fundraising in State Treasurer’s Race

Davenport, IA – The Smith for Treasurer campaign announced it has outraised Michael Fitzgerald by almost 4 to 1 for the first financial reporting period of 2022. Smith for Treasurer raised $78,705.38 during the January 1 – May 14 reporting period, while Iowans for Fitzgerald reported raising an anemic $21,583.90.

Smith also holds a commanding cash on hand advantage over Fitzgerald. Smith ends the reporting period with $200,136.15 cash on hand, while Fitzgerald reports $70,007.05.

Contributions to Smith have set an all-time record for an Iowa State Treasurer’s candidate of either party during a single election cycle. To date Smith has raised a total $213,391.15 for the 2022 election cycle.

“I continue to be humbled by the support I’ve received across Iowa for our campaign for State Treasurer. Our historic fundraising number and Fitzgerald’s lack of support shows Iowans are clearly ready for change,” said Smith.

After graduating from Concordia University with a degree in Business Administration, Roby Smith worked for nearly a decade as a local banker in the Davenport area before becoming a small business owner and running for the Iowa legislature. Roby is currently an unpaid member of the local U.S. Bank Board and volunteers to teach financial literacy to students through the Junior Achievement program.

Roby Smith and his wife, Kari, live in Davenport, IA with their four children. The family is active at Trinity Lutheran Church and Roby volunteers with area youth sports and serves on the Scott Community College Foundation Board.
